Year 4
During the year, the children continue to present their learning in class assemblies and enjoy a range of texts in English, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in using and applying the four operations in maths and learn more about place value through investigations. Children use their science enquiry skills to predict, plan and record observations. Our topics range from teeth to changes of state to habitats. In history, we study The Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings, challenging the credibility of historical sources. In conjunction with our historical topics, our geography enables us become more familiar with maps and we learn basic orienteering skills. In computing, we learn to debug programmes and use Scratch to design and create purposeful algorithms.
A selection of the workshops bring this learning to life such as:
- The visit from an Anglo Saxon warrior;
- The Sikh workshop, where the children will learn by participating in various activities;
- The drumming workshop, where the children indulge in the music of different cultures.
One of the highlight’s of the year is our overnight residential stay on the school field. The children have the opportunity to utilise and develop their team-building skills. They learn about putting up tents, cooking outside and exploring the woodland area.
