Year 5
During the year the children enjoy a range of texts in English, including extracts from Harry Potter and The Hobbit, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in all aspects of maths, whilst developing confidence and fluency with their arithmetic. In science, we delve into the wonders of space, forces, materials, marvellous mixtures, life cycles and reproduction. In history we study Tudors, Mesoamerica and the British Empire and our geography allows us to learn about the European Union before exploring the key features of rivers and coasts. We use digital resources to programme and develop our project management skills and write code, using Kodu, in computing.
A selection of the workshops bring this learning to life such as: the science dome, robotics workshop and bridge design workshop.
One of the highlights of the year is our residential trip to Badminton Woods, where the children learn survival skills, first aid, and use nature for art building team building skills and confidence in the children.
