Woodland Learning

At Highfield, we believe that learning can and should happen everywhere — not just within the walls of a classroom. Our new Woodland Area offers a wonderful opportunity to take learning outdoors, helping children to make real-world connections with nature while developing practical skills, confidence, and a deep respect for the natural environment.

While the Woodland will be used throughout the year across a range of curriculum subjects, each class will also enjoy two dedicated Woodland sessions each term.

On these designated Woodland weeks, we kindly ask that children come to school with appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear — such as wellies, waterproofs, and comfortable, practical layers like tracksuit bottoms — so they can fully engage in all activities, whatever the weather.

We are genuinely passionate about the benefits of outdoor learning. Research consistently shows that time spent in nature can boost concentration, support mental well-being, and enhance creativity. It also encourages physical development, teamwork, leadership, and — perhaps most importantly — gives children a lasting sense of achievement and self-confidence.

We hope you are as excited as we are about the launch of our Woodland Learning Programme, and we look forward to seeing our children flourish as they explore, discover, and grow in this inspiring new space.
